John A. Smith is president and incoming chief executive officer at FedEx Freight, where he is responsible for leading the company’s transition into an independent, publicly-traded company.

Smith has nearly 40 years of experience in the transportation industry. He joined Federal Express Corporation in 2000 and serves as chief operating officer for the United States and Canada, where he oversees surface operations for all parcel and less-than-truckload (LTL) freight services.

His previous leadership roles include serving as president and CEO of FedEx Ground from 2021 to 2023, and president and CEO of FedEx Freight (a then-subsidiary of FedEx) from 2018 to 2021 . Throughout his tenure, he has managed operations across nearly all parts of the organization including sales, transportation, fleet maintenance, facility services, and safety. His current focus at FedEx Freight is strengthening the company’s position as the world’s largest LTL provider, creating sustainable growth by investing in advanced infrastructure and intelligent operations.

Outside of FedEx Freight, Smith serves on the board of the American Transportation Research Institute.

Smith holds a Bachelor of Science in geology from Northwestern State University.

Marshall Witt is senior vice president and chief financial officer at FedEx Freight, where he oversees all finance functions for the company. He has extensive experience guiding organizations through critical periods of transition to achieve profitable growth.

Before joining FedEx Freight, Witt served as chief financial officer of TD SYNNEX, a global IT distributor and solutions provider. During his 12-year tenure as CFO, he led the company through significant revenue and EBITDA growth, driving substantial value creation.

Prior to his time at TD SYNNEX, Witt spent 15 years at Federal Express Corporation, primarily within the then-subsidiary FedEx Freight, where he most recently served as senior vice president of finance and controller from 2008 to 2013 . He possesses a deep understanding of global markets, operational complexity, and financial discipline, particularly in the areas of investor relations, spinoffs, tax, treasury, M&A, accounting, financial planning, and internal audit.

Marshall holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Pacific Lutheran University and a master’s in accounting from Seattle University. He is also a certified public accountant (CPA), bringing comprehensive financial oversight and governance capabilities equipped to serve large and complex public companies.

Eddie Klank is senior vice president and chief human resources and legal officer at FedEx Freight, where he leads the company’s human resources, legal, government and regulatory affairs, and security teams. A trusted advisor and business strategist with nearly 30 years of service at FedEx, Klank is recognized for his leadership, integrity, and ability to guide large, complex organizations through change.

Klank began his FedEx career in 1998 as an attorney and has since held a range of senior leadership roles spanning corporate governance, enterprise claims and risk management, sustainability, and securities and tax law for FedEx Corporation. He serves on the FedEx Freight executive leadership team, helping set the company’s strategic direction.

Mike Lyons is senior vice president and chief specialized services and commercial officer at FedEx Freight. Over his nearly 30-year career with FedEx Freight, McCoy has held a variety of leadership roles. As vice president of engineering and later senior vice president of operations, support and engineering, he led teams responsible for transportation, facilities, network engineering, fleet maintenance, and safety, building a foundation for operational discipline and high-performing teams across the organization. McCoy helps shape the strategic direction of the business while reinforcing the company’s Safety Above All culture and commitment to delivering dependable service. He believes the future of logistics will be defined by organizations that combine operational discipline, innovation, and strong leadership cultures.

McCoy holds a Bachelor of Science from Arkansas Tech University and a Master of Science in operations management from the University of Arkansas.

Michael Rodgers is senior vice president and chief technology officer at FedEx Freight. He leads the strategic direction of the company’s technology, overseeing data infrastructure, commercial applications, and IT operations.

Rodgers joined FedEx Freight with more than 30 years of experience driving digital strategy across transportation and retail. From 2015 to 2024, he served as executive vice president and chief technology officer for Pilot Company, one of North America’s largest travel center operators and commercial fuel providers. During his tenure, he spearheaded large-scale digital transformations. His leadership background also includes serving as executive vice president of omnichannel at J.C. Penney.

He previously spent more than two decades at Saks Fifth Avenue, where he held multiple leadership positions, including executive vice president and chief information and operations officer from 2007 to 2014.

Rodgers serves on the FedEx Freight executive leadership team, which is responsible for setting the strategic direction for the corporation. He is also active in the community and currently serves on the board of the Knoxville Museum of Art. Additionally, he volunteers with the American Heart Association and the Community Coalition Against Human Trafficking.

Rodgers holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and economics from Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg of Pennsylvania and an MBA in finance from Saint Joseph’s University.
